Two MSU students arrest over Whatsapp Group messages insulting the president

Prince Talent Kamutsamba Aged 22 years and Llyod Zata Aged 25 years are forth year students at Midlands State University undergoing Honours degree in Local Governance. They are members of a WhatsApp group for their class called Club Local Governance Studies (LGS).

On 22 November 2018 information was obtained that the two accused persons were sending insulting and threatening messages about the president of the Republic of Zimbabwe H.E. Comrade E.D. Mnangagwa on their WhatsApp group who was expected to officiate at the Graduation Ceremony on the 23rd November 2018 at Midlands State University.

The two were arrested by PISI Senga and were handed over to CID Law and Order Gweru. Their cell phones were taken and checked. The following information was seen on their WhatsApp chats:
Accused 1 sent a message in Shona saying “ndiyani angandiudzirawo vaMnangagwa kuti November haasati apera.”
Another participant who uses the name Beki on the platform replied in Shona saying “Ko vamirireka ugovaudza wega pavanouya pagraduation.”
Accused 1 replied in Shona saying “handitaure nemunhu anopenga ini.”
Accused 2 sent a message in Shona saying “toda kumupisira mu Multi Purpose Hall (MPH).”
The two cell phones are held and the accused persons are detained at Gweru Central.

THE TWO ARE CHARGED FOR UNDERMINING AUTHORITY OF THE PRESIDENT AS DEFINED IN SECTION 33(1)(B) OF THE CRIMINAL LAW CODIFICATION AND REFORM ACT CHAPTER 09:23
